The Critter Club #3 - Liz Learns a LessonThe third installment of The Critter Club series by Callie Barkley comes out just about a month before summer vacation. In this episode (entitled Liz Learns a Lesson), Liz has to miss out on all her summer vacation plans (sleeping in, art class, pet-sitting, critter clubbing, etc.) because she’s got to go to summer school to make up for some poor grades. According to the publisher, Liz “learns a lesson even more important than fractions.” I assume this book will be full of trigonometry and multi-variable calculus.

And while we’re at it, can The Critter Club try to solve the mystery of who is really writing these books. Callie Barkley? Really? Barkley? Callie sounds an awful lot like Collie (dog breed). That’s got to be a pseudonym, right? A book series about pets written by Barkley? That’s like the dubious Rex Stone writing the Dinosaur Cove series. I have confirmed that Marsha Riti is, in fact, a real person. According to the publisher:

Callie Barkley loves animals. As a young girl, she dreamed of getting a cat or dog of her own until she discovered she was allergic to most of them. It was around this time that she realized the world was full of all kinds of critters that could use some love. She now lives with her husband and two kids in Connecticut. They share their home with exactly ten fish and a very active ant farm.

Very mysterious. We can’t track her down through her vet, because who takes fish or ants to the veterinarian. Husband and two kids? Sounds pretty generic to me. And Connecticut? Nobody really lives in Connecticut. That’s just a state full of highways connecting New York and Massachusetts. I would really like Amy, Ellie, Liz, and Marion to take a look into this!

(Miss Barkley, if you do exist, I wholeheartedly apologize for that unnecessary rant.)
