Stallion by StarlightPrior to the conception of Off the Library Shelf, Mary Pope Osborne had written 48 stories in her best-selling Magic Tree House series. If you haven’t read them yet, I highly recommend doing so. I’d read them in order, as every set of four books (1-4, 5-8, etc.) contains a special mission throughout, and the main characters (Jack and Annie) grow and meet recurring characters as the series goes on. These books are wonderful gateways to the historical figures and time periods to which Jack and Annie travel, and many of the books in the series contain non-fiction companion Magic Tree House Fact Trackers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across something with the kids and said, “actually, you already know about this – remember when Jack and Annie went to …?”

Magic Tree House #49: Stallion by Starlight
will be released on Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Stallion by Starlight will begin a new mission for Jack and Annie. I don’t know what mission that might be, but I can’t wait to find out. The title doesn’t really give away the time period or locale to where Jack and Annie might go, nor does it hint at who they might meet (whereas the following one, #50, is entitled Hurry Up Houdini! and does give some of that away). It has been rumored that they are heading to Ancient Greece on an adventure with Alexander the Great when he was a child, and the stallion is Bucephalus. We’ll all find out next month.
