Amelia Bedelia Means BusinessSo, we’ve seen Amelia Bedelia as an adult in the original Peggy Parish and Herman Parish incarnations. We’ve seen her as a kindergartener in the most recent Herman Parish (author) and Lynne Avril (illustrator) hard cover and easy reader books, beginning with Amelia Bedelia’s First Day of School. With the January 29, 2013 release of Amelia Bedelia Means Business, we’ll see a slightly older (at least based on the picture and topic) Amelia in what appears to be her first chapter book.

I didn’t read the original Amelia Bedelia books as a child, but as an adult I read some to my kids, and I felt that they were pretty dated. I often had to explain what drawing the curtains meant, and frankly, many of the misinterpreted phrases don’t make sense any more either way you’d interpret them. The new kindergarten Amelia is less dated, and I always liked Avril’s drawings, which I think made them more appealing than they would have otherwise been.

Amelia Bedelia Means Business will be released on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

I’m a bit curious as to how an entire 160 page chapter book will work out. How many things can she misinterpret? Will we see more emotion, perhaps even sadness, at some of the mistakes she’ll make? Either way, Amelia Bedelia will likely be funny helping out at a diner, selling lemonade, baking treats, and entering contests in order to afford a new snazzy bike.

Apparently on the same day (January 29th), the second book in this series will also be released (Amelia Bedelia Unleashed).
