Sew Zoey #1 - Ready to Wear by Chloe TaylorHi everyone! I am back! Today I have a post about a fun book called Sew Zoey #1: Ready to Wear by Chloe Taylor.

This book is about a girl named Zoey. She loves to sketch ideas for clothing and she is obsessed with fashion. It is almost time for Zoey to start  the school year and she has just heard some spectacular news! No more uniforms! There is only one problem. What should she wear?!

Just in case you think that this book is just about Zoey picking out clothes for the first day of school, it is not. That would definitly not be a very interesting book. It is way more than that, but I dont want to spoil it, so just go and read the book yourself.

Pegasus 1 - The Flame of Olympus by Kate O'HearnHi, everybody! Greek Girl is back! Today I’m going to share a post about Pegasus: The Flame of Olympus by Kate O’Hearn! This is book is about a girl named Emily who lives in New York City. One night, while her Dad (who, by the way, is a policeman) was still at work there was a thunderstorm. And in the middle of the thunderstorm, Pegasus came crashing down on her roof. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say, hmmmm, they go on an adventure … with some other characters, too.

Picture Book of the Week: Flora and the Flamingo

| December 27, 2013 1 Comment »

Flora and the FlamingoFrom OtLS favorite, Molly Idle, this wordless picture book is flat-out awesome! I just bought my first copy of Flora and the Flamingo to give away as a gift. This book falls into so many categories, but let me first tell you what it’s about. Flora (who appears to be an aspiring toddler ballerina-swimmer), begins mimicking a flamingo. Then she continues mimicking the flamingo. She mimics a little more and eventually, the pair dances off into pink nirvana.

Picture Book of the Week: When Sheep Cannot Sleep – The Counting Book

| November 29, 2013 Add Your Comment »

When Sheep Cannot SleepI hadn’t heard of author/illustrator Satoshi Kitamura until Mama Funk began taking a course in children’s picture book illustrating (the course was analyzing picture books, not learning how to draw them). When Sheep Cannot Sleep: The Counting Book (originally published in 1988) was on the course’s syllabus, and rightfully so. This book sparked an animated discussion regarding the widely varying opinions on the illustrations. Some people didn’t get it. Others loved it. Some thought it spooky. Some people read into every illustrated detail: What does it mean that one of the 13 doors was open? Why isn’t anyone else in the house? Why did Kitamura illustrate only inside the bordered boxes on the page? And where are the rest of the sheep?!?
